Comcast Boosts Internet Speed for Gallup Region

A strong internet connection is essential, a point proven last year when most of the schoolwork and socializing was happening behind a screen. But rural areas like Gallup don’t always measure up when it comes to Internet connectivity.

“Previously, Gallup customers had access to up to 50 megabits per second. But as more people go online and use the Internet for more options, they need access to better speeds, ”said Chris Dunkeson, zone president for Comcast.

For example, Comcast recently announced that it has improved Internet speeds in Gallup for homes and businesses.

“All 9,000 homes and businesses in the Gallup area can achieve internet speeds of up to 1.2 GB per second, we certainly realized that during the pandemic, broadband access is incredibly important,” said Dunkeson.

Higher internet speeds also mean capacity for more devices. Gallup borders the Navajo Nation and on the reservation there has been a long-standing digital divide and COVID-19 has drawn attention to the lack of high-speed internet service.

“We want to have the same opportunities wherever you live. Whether you live in New York or Gallup, you want to be able to work online and connect to healthcare, connect with family and friends, and access the Internet. is our way of doing this now, so we’re really excited to connect people with what matters most in their lives, ”said Dunkeson.
