Internet Speed Boost Welcomes PBBM – Manila Bulletin

Increased internet speed welcomes PBBM

The Marcos administration was greeted with increases in internet download speeds in both fixed and mobile broadband for the Philippines by Ookla Speedtest Global Index’s June 2022 report.

Ok so

The country’s median fixed broadband speed rose to 68.94 Mbps from 60.09 Mbps recorded the previous month. Average download speed for fixed broadband clocked at 94.66 Mbps.

Median mobile speed also increased, with the country recording a download speed of 21.41 Mbps from 19.26 Mbps the previous month. Mobile average download speed clocked at 50.57 Mbps.

The improved internet speed is a welcome development as DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy is fulfilling President Marcos’ orders to improve connectivity and e-governance in the country.

The improvement in internet speed is largely attributed to the streamlining and speeding up of LGU permit issuance, as telecom operators are able to speed up the construction of infrastructure (cellular towers and fiber optic network ) necessary to strengthen services and connectivity.

The entry of Elon Musk’s Starlink into the Philippine market is also expected to further improve internet speeds.

The service offers high-speed, low-latency satellite Internet service with a download speed of between 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps. Using advanced low orbit satellites, Starlink will enable video calling, online gaming, streaming and other high data activities never before possible with satellite internet.
