HANOI (Vietnam News / Asia News Network): Speed ââtest statistics showed that the download speed of mobile networks in Vietnam reached 42.46 Mbps in July, lower than the global average of 55.07 Mbps.
Speedtest also said that for fixed broadband Internet, Vietnam achieved a download speed of 78.43 Mbps, far behind the global index of 107.50 Mbps.
A significant improvement is that Vietnamese Internet download speed is above average, such as mobile network at 19.25 Mbps versus 12.35 Mbps, and fixed broadband at 68.38 Mbps versus 58.27 Mbps.
The fastest mobile network access speed in the world belongs to the United Arab Emirates with 190.03 Mbps, followed by South Korea at 189.2 Mbps.
In the Southeast Asia region, Singapore leads the way with 85.93 Mbps, ranking 18th in the world, Brunei with 59.34 Mbps (36th), Thailand 48.89 Mbps (51st) and the Vietnam (58th).
In terms of fixed broadband Internet, the world leader is Monaco with 256.7 Mbps, followed by Singapore with 256.03 Mbps.
Southeast Asia also ranked Thailand fourth in the world with 216.16 Mbps, Malaysia 46th with 100.94 Mbps, followed by Vietnam.
Compared with May, Vietnam has lost two places in the ranking of mobile internet but gained one place in fixed broadband internet.
Speedtest’s analysis showed that the internet access speed in Vietnam dropped slightly due to some incidents with submarine fiber optic cables in July, in which the AAG route twice encountered problems. while many countries have strengthened their infrastructure, especially mobile networks with new 5G systems.
It is predicted that in September the internet speed in Vietnam may not improve due to the AAE-1 cable line error and continue to be affected by the issue with the AAG cable which s ‘is produced in July.
The AAE-1 fiber optic submarine cable of the S1H branch will not be repaired until November.
A representative of an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Vietnam said that the troubleshooting schedule on the Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) submarine fiber optic cable route was communicated by this unit. of cable management to network operators in Vietnam.
As a result, two faults on the S1H cable branch of the AAE-1 line will begin to be corrected from November 2 and are expected to be completed on November 14.
The AAE-1 submarine fiber-optic cable encountered problems on the S1H section on September 4 and 7 respectively, affecting the Internet connection from Vietnam to Singapore and Europe.
International connections also experience traffic jams at peak times, so users may experience slowness when accessing international websites and apps like Facebook, YouTube, Zoom, and Tiktok.
National Internet service providers operating the AAE-1 line attempt to adjust the capacity of international bandwidth to provide service to customers.
The AAE-1 is part of Vietnam’s important submarine cable systems, alongside four others of the Asia-America Gateway (AAG), Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG), TGN-Intra Cable System Asia (TGN-IA) and South-East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3 (SMW-3).
It has a total length of 23,000 km spanning 19 countries and territories in Asia, Africa and Europe.
This is the second time the system has encountered a problem this year, the first occurring on May 26 and fully recovering in mid-July.
Meanwhile, another submarine cable route, Asia America Gateway (AAG), has not yet been fully restored due to an error that occurred on August 11 on the S1B branch from Hong Kong to Singapore of the cable route.
AAG Vietnam-Singapore capacity continues to be lost. It is expected that the AAG cable line will be repaired on September 26, when the transmission channels on the road will be fully restored.
