Starlink officials and PTA discuss satellite broadband connectivity in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Officials from the US-based global satellite broadband provider Starlink and PTA discussed the launch of the service in Pakistan. Starlink Middle East & Asia Director Mr. Ryan Goodnight and Head of Global Site Acquisition Mr. Ben Macwilliam visited the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) Headquarters, in Islamabad on December 13, 2021.

They met the President of the PTA, Major General Amir Azeem Bajwa (R) and the Executive Director of the Frequency Allocation Council.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues relating to providing broadband satellite connectivity to Pakistan and Starlink’s future plans to connect Pakistan to their global network. PTA Chairman briefed Starlink representatives on Digital Pakistan PM’s vision and Pakistan’s evolving market outlook for quality broadband internet. He assured Starlink representatives of PTA’s support in accordance with the regulatory framework for Starlink’s operations in Pakistan.

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX providing satellite internet access to most of Earth. … SpaceX is launching up to 60 satellites at a time, with the goal of deploying 1,584 of the 260 kg (570 lb) of spacecraft to provide near-global service by the end of 2021 or 2022.
