What is a good internet speed for Fortnite? Generally speaking, there are two times when internet speed is of vital importance when it comes to gaming: the initial download and during online multiplayer. The two scenarios have very different minimum requirements for a hassle-free experience. Here’s what you need to know for both.

Video game console manufacturers and online service providers such as Microsoft tend to recommend that gamers have at least 3 Mbps (megabits per second) download speed. They also recommend at least 0.5 Mbps download speed. These numbers will allow you to play online, but increasing them a little will help you in terms of stability and loading times. Higher speeds will also help if you share your internet connection with other members of the same household.
Fortnite’s initial download size is around 26 GB (or gigabytes). It’s not as big as some of the other AAA monstrosities on the market, but that’s no joke. At Microsoft’s recommended minimum download speed for online play, it would take over 19 hours to download Fortnite. To bring that down to a more reasonable 30 minutes, you’d need a download speed of around 116 Mbps. Your download speed will not affect download times.
