Will ensure network connectivity during XX Papua PON: Telkomsel

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Mobile operator Telkomsel said it has taken steps to ensure infrastructure readiness and service availability during the XX Papua National Games (PON), which are scheduled to take place from October 2 to 15, 2021 .

“PON XX Papua 2021 is the first largest national sporting event in Indonesia to be held in the eastern part of Indonesia. As a network provider, Telkomsel is committed to supporting Papua PON with access to communication networks and data services through our state-of-the-art broadband technology ”, said Telkomsel Director Hendri Mulya Syam in a press release issued Friday.

Telkomsel is working with parent company TelkomGroup to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure to provide connectivity and broadband services during Papua’s PON, he informed.

Telkomsel added broadband network infrastructure in the form of 192 4G / LTE BTS (base transceiver stations) towers and increased the capacity and quality of services at Lukas Enembe stadium by building an indoor system, did he declare.

It has also deployed 12 additional COMBATs (compact mobile base stations) which will travel to priority points, such as three airports, information centers, PB PON, 31 hotels, 47 main arenas, roads and tourist sites, a-t- he adds.

Since last April, Telkomsel has anticipated an increase in service traffic and the need for communication services during the PON in four clusters, namely Jayapura City and the districts of Jayapura, Mimika and Merauke, said Syam.

The cellular service provider is also ensuring power availability by preparing dozens of generators and mobile power support (SCD) and optimizing the battery capacity of each BTS, he informed.

With these preparations, Telkomsel is optimistic about providing qualified services during the sporting event, he said.

During the PON, Telkomsel will organize an exhibition on 5G connection titled “Telkomsel 5G Experience Center” where visitors, especially Papuans, can experience the benefits of 5G technology, he added.

Educational content on Papua’s culture and nature will be provided on virtual reality devices during the exhibition, he informed.
